Job Shadow Program Provided Immersive Experience

Diving into the 2023 Celebrating Women in Sport Job Shadow Program held at Canada Life Centre was an exhilarating opportunity for me. Over two enlightening days, the Manitoba Moose team provided me with an immersive experience in the dynamic sports industry, offering valuable insights into marketing strategies, brand development and media production.
One of the greatest aspects of the Celebrating Women in Sport event is its potential for catalyzing long-term change. As one of the six women who participated in the program, I feel privileged to have been part of this initiative. I am also thankful to be one of two participants hired a couple months after the event due, in part, to lessons learned from our involvement. The support network and a number of opportunities for connection with female leaders within True North were invaluable.
Meeting women in leadership roles inspired me to apply to work for a company that challenges stereotypes and pushes for female representation in traditionally male-dominated industries. After working at True North for a few months now, I want to highlight all the amazing female co-workers I have, and the female leadership who exemplify excellence in their respective fields.
If someone wants to get into a male-dominated field like hockey, but has doubts, I would tell them to not be deterred from applying or trying to enter that world. For me, it presents a purposeful challenge I am eager to accept. After the opportunity to be a part of a job shadow program and meeting people who work in the industry, I can confidently say TNSE has an essential part in adding females to the hockey workforce.
Although the job shadow program is still in its early stages, I envision its continued growth and potential to inspire young females interested in pursuing a career in the hockey industry.
