The Manitoba Moose (2-3-0-1) look to get back on track Friday night (Oct. 28) when they welcome the San Diego Gulls (2-2-0-0) to MTS Centre at 7 p.m.

After several days of practice, the Moose look to forget last weekend’s series with the Toronto Marlies that saw 4-2 and 4-0 losses for Manitoba on Saturday and Sunday respectively. Even though both games lacked results, Moose blueliner Kevin Czuczman contributed to the offense grabbing two points (1G 1A) in Saturday’s game giving him three points (1G 2A) on the season.

First Clash

This will be the first time the Manitoba Moose face the Pacific Division’s San Diego Gulls since the Gulls joined the AHL last season. The two teams will meet four times this year, with the second meeting coming on Saturday night (Oct. 29). Manitoba then heads to San Diego for a two-game set on Nov. 11/12. Last season the Moose posted a 7-9-2-2 record against Pacific Division teams.

Soaring Gulls

Coming off a 7-5 loss to the Stockton Heat Wednesday night (Oct. 26), a pair of Gulls’ forwards added to their point totals – inching them closer to the league lead. Corey Tropp is now tied for third in AHL scoring after a goal and two assists against Stockton, giving him eight points this season (2G 6A). Brandon Montour is also off to a good start this season. The Ontario product had a goal and an assist on Wednesday, giving him six points (2G 4A) in four games.

Time to take Advantage

Manitoba will look to capitalize on the powerplay Friday night. San Diego boasts the league’s worst penalty kill, allowing goals 55.6 per cent of the time. Manitoba’s powerplay is ranked 13th in the league and Manitoba has managed to score powerplay goals in both home games this season.

Looking Ahead

Following Friday’s tilt, the two teams will be back inside the MTS Centre for another game on Saturday night (Oct. 29) at 7 p.m. For tickets to all upcoming Manitoba Moose home games, visit moosehockey.com/tickets.
