Coming off their first loss since Oct. 23, the Manitoba Moose (6-4-0-1) are back on the ice tonight looking for revenge against the San Diego Gulls (3-5-1-0).

Recap

On Friday Manitoba looked for the fifth straight win, but it was not to be.  The first frame saw the Gulls open the scoring with only 11.3 seconds left in the opening 20 minutes. After the Gulls scored another in the second, Manitoba got their first of the night from newly signed forward Dan DeSalvo. In the third, Manitoba found themselves in a 3-1 hole thanks to Brandon Montour. The Moose made things interesting when Kevin Czuczman scored his second of the year, but it was all they could muster as the Gulls took Friday’s tilt, 3-2.

Filling the Net

If Manitoba hopes to continue generating offense, they’ll need big plays from a man who only joined the team two day ago. In his first game with the Moose since signing a PTO on Thursday (Nov. 10), Dan DeSalvo has made an impact. On Friday against the Gulls, the Illinois product found the net in the second period with a quick wrister and assisted on Kevin Czuczman’s third period goal. It’s clear DeSalvo has the scoring touch, he registered 13 points (6G, 7A) in 12 games with Tulsa (ECHL) this season. Dating back his 17-game stint with Manitoba last year, DeSalvo has points in nine straight AHL games, scoring 11 points (4G, 7A).

Special Teams

During Manitoba’s four-game win streak, they were able to find success on special teams. Last night the Moose came up empty in that department and will look to take advantage tonight. San Diego is the perfect place to get back on track as the Gulls own the 30th ranked penalty kill, operating at 66.7 per cent.

Gulls and Goals

A top priority tonight will be keeping an eye on two of San Diego’s offensive weapons. Gulls’ forwards Corey Tropp and Brandon Montour played a factor in Friday’s game. Tropp added an assist giving him 11 points (3G, 8A) in nine games while Montour had a goal and an assist, totaling 10 points (3G, 7A) in nine contests.

What’s Next?

Manitoba will enjoy a day off in the Golden State on Sunday and then head to Bakersfield where they will face the Condors in a rare 12:30 p.m. CT matchup on Wednesday (Nov. 16). You can listen to the call with Mitch Peacock while you’re at the office, by heading online to moosehockey.com/listenlive.
