The Manitoba Moose conclude their regular season home schedule this afternoon (2 p.m.) against the Iowa Wild. The Moose scored a 7-4 win over the Wild yesterday. Kristian Reichel led the way with his first AHL hat-trick and four-point game. Jeffrey Viel (2G, 1A) and Kyle Capobianco (3A) each recorded three points in the win.

Heading to the Dance

With the Moose racking up a 7-4 win yesterday against Iowa and Chicago falling against Grand Rapids in regulation, the antlered ones clinched a spot in the 2024 Calder Cup Playoffs. It’s the third straight season the Moose will compete in the playoffs. The Moose achieved the milestone with four games remaining in the regular season. It’s the 18th time the Moose franchise has participated in the post-season, including the organization’s time in the IHL and as the St. John’s IceCaps. The club reached the Calder Cup Final in 2009 (Manitoba) and 2014 (St. John’s).

Magical Afternoon

Kristian Reichel notched both his first career AHL hat-trick and four-point outing in Manitoba’s victory. Reichel also finished the contest with  a plus-five rating, the highest single-game mark of his AHL career. Reichel, who re-signed a two-year contract with Winnipeg in 2022, is riding a three-game point streak and has tallied seven points (4G, 3A) in those contests. The centreman has recorded 38 points (21G, 17A) in 67 games and is now tied alongside Jeff Malott for the team lead in goals. The Litvinov, Czech Republic native has set new career-high marks in game played, goals, assists, points and plus-minus rating. Reichel has produced 114 points (55G, 59A) in 281 career contests.

Dishin’

Kyle Capobianco produced three assists in Manitoba’s win yesterday. The defenceman ranks second in team scoring has registered 50 points (11G, 39A) in 66 contests. Capobianco is the third defenceman in Moose history to record 50 points in a single season, and it’s the sixth time in franchise history a defender reached the mark. The former Arizona 2015 third round selection has tallied six three-point games this season, which paces all Moose skaters. The Mississauga, Ont. product has reached new career-highs in goals, assists, points, power play goals and plus-minus rating over the campaign. Capobianco’s 50 points and 39 assists lead all AHL defenders.

Scoring in Bunches

Jeffrey Viel registered three points (2G, 1A) on Saturday against Iowa. The winger has now posted 37 points (17G, 20A) in 65 games. Viel’s 17 goals are a new career-high, as are the forward’s 20 assists and 37 total points. Viel also notched his second shorthanded tally of the campaign, which matches his previous career-high from 2022-23. The winger is currently firing at an 11.4 percent shooting percentage, which is the second highest mark of his six-season AHL career. Viel has tallied 130 points (62, 68A) in 277 contests between San Jose and Manitoba.

Parker Ford recorded an assist in yesterday’s win over Iowa. The forward is up to 37 points (15G, 22A) through 68 games. The winger ranks seventh in Moose scoring and third among the club’s rookies. In addition, Ford’s six game-winning goals place him first on the Moose. The Wakefield, RI. product has tallied
41 points (17G, 22A) in 76 career games.
