The Moose seek a fourth straight win when they face off against the Milwaukee Admirals tonight. Manitoba held off a late surge from Milwaukee in their previous meeting on Wednesday, claiming a 3-2 win. The Moose built up a 3-0 lead with goals in each period before the Admirals tallied a shorthanded goal and a strike with the extra attacker. The Moose enter the weekend needing any combination of three points from Manitoba wins or Iowa losses to clinch a playoff spot. Leading the Charge

Jeff Malott is currently in the midst of a season-long five-game point streak while producing six points (2G, 4A) in that span. Malott currently leads the Moose in both points and goals while recording 36 points (21G, 15A) in 54 games on the campaign. The Burlington, Ont. product has nearly doubled the 20 points he produced last year with Manitoba and also leads the squad with seven game-winning goals. That number ties him for third overall in the AHL this season. It also ties Malott for fourth on the single-season franchise leaderboard. The record is nine game-winners scored by Jason Jaffray in 2006-07.

Let’s Get Down to Business

Bobby Lynch recorded a goal during the second period of Manitoba’s win over Milwaukee on Wednesday. The forward is up to 18 points (8G, 10A) in 37 games and is riding a three-game point streak that has seen him record three points (2G, 1A) his past three contests. That mark ties the longest point streak of the season for Lynch who recorded four points (1G, 3A) in three games from Feb. 27 to March 3. Lynch has one power play and one game-winning goal to his credit this season. The game-winner was the third of his career.

Effective Penalty Kill

Manitoba has displayed a prowess when shorthanded the past six games. During that span, the Moose took a total of 19 penalties and successfully killed off every single infraction. That span saw Manitoba head to the sin bin five times against both Rockford on March 26 and Laval on March 30. Nine of this penalties have come in the Moose current three-game winning streak. The penalty kill numbers continue to increase with the Moose now sitting at 82.5% on the campaign. That puts Manitoba ninth overall in the AHL.

Success in Milwaukee

Manitoba has found a decent amount of success in Milwaukee this season. The Moose are 3-0-1-0 when playing at UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena. The success started on Nov. 10 when the Moose came away with a 4-3 win in overtime. That game saw Leon Gawanke recored three points including the overtime winner. Manitoba also set a new franchise record with 60 shots that evening. The win on Jan. 12 was the Mikhail Berdin show, as the Moose netminder turned aside all 24 shots he faced and recorded a shutout. The Milwaukee portion of the season series has been a tight-checking set of games with the Moose outscoring the Admirals 10-7 in the four games. That count puts the teams at a combined 4.25 goals per game at UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena.

Nicholas Jones recorded two points (2A) in Wednesday morning’s win over the Milwaukee Admirals. The forward is now up to 25 points (9G, 16A) in 52 games and his next goal will be a new career high. Jones has tallied four points (1G, 3A) his past two games and owns six multi-point games this season. He’s also one four Moose to score shorthanded.
