Fast Facts: Moose at Toronto – Feb. 13

The Manitoba Moose and Toronto Marlies meet up tonight to complete their game originally scheduled for Jan. 13. The teams completed one period of play prior to the game being suspended ahead of the start of the second period. The Moose come into the contest following a pair of wins in Grand Rapids, including a 5-1 victory on Saturday. Resumption of Play

Monday evening sees the Moose and Marlies resume their contest from Jan. 13/23. The two teams played the first 20 minutes before the game was eventually suspended. The Marlies opened the scoring in the contest with the fourth goal of the season from Mikhail Abramov. Manitoba tied the contest with the eighth of the season from Alex Limoges on the power play. Oskari Salminen finished the first frame with three stops, while Erik Kallgren stopped four pucks in the stanza. When the contest resumes at the beginning of the second period, the Moose will have 28 seconds of power play time.

Stay Hot, Reichs!

Kristian Reichel notched a pair of points (1G, 1A) in Saturday’s win. The forward tallied a first period assist, his ninth of the season, setting a new-career high. The goal, Reichel’s third career shorthanded marker, represented his 17th point of the season. That mark ties his career-high from 2019-20. Reichel tied the longest point streak of his career, which is up to four games and has produced six points (5G, 1A). The four-game goal stretch is also a career-long for the forward. Reichel has 69 points (33G, 36A) in 194 career AHL games, all with Manitoba.

Special Teams Display

Over the two-game road sweep of Grand Rapids, the Moose penalty kill turned aside eight of nine Griffins power plays, including shutting down all five Grand Rapids chances on Saturday. In addition, Manitoba was able to score its second shorthanded goal in the past five games. The Moose penalty kill ranks sixth in the league with a success rate of 83.9%. The Moose have potted six shorthanded goals, one off the seven the team scored in 2021-22. On the offensive side, Manitoba’s power play converted twice on Saturday and is clicking at 24.6%, which is good for third in the AHL. When the Moose score two or more power play goals in a contest, their record is 8-1-2-0.

Contributing Offensively

Cole Maier scored a goal in the Moose win on Saturday. The forward, is riding a three-game point streak and has three points (1G, 2A) in that span. Maier’s most recent goal was his 10th of the season and marks the second time in his AHL career Maier reached double-digits. Maier also sports a plus-seven rating, which is good for second among Moose forwards over the campaign. The forward has registered 86 total points (43G, 43A) in 191 games with the Moose.

Jansen Harkins tallied two points (1G, 1A) in Saturday’s win. His first period goal was the forward’s 100th career AHL point. Harkins is riding a four-game point streak that has seen him pick up six points (2G, 4A). The forward is the 38th player in Manitoba franchise history to register 100  points in antlers.
