The Manitoba Moose look to close out their three-game trip on a winning note in a rematch against the Laval Rocket this afternoon. The Rocket cruised to a 5-2 victory last night after scoring three times in the opening period. Lias Andersson and Jared Davidson both recorded multi-point games in the Laval win. Brad Lambert and C.J. Suess each scored on the power play to represent the Moose offence. Finns of a Different Feather

The Winnipeg Jets announced Thursday the team assigned defenceman Ville Heinola to the Moose. The Honkajoki, Finland product posted 37 points (4G, 33A) in 48 games with the Moose during the 2022-23 season, as well as one assist in 10 NHL games with Winnipeg. Heinola has appeared in 111 career AHL games, all with Manitoba, while recording 75 points (13G, 62A). He is tied for 12th in franchise history in points for a defenceman. Additionally, the Winnipeg Jets recalled forward Rasmus Kupari from the Moose. Kupari appeared in one game for Manitoba and recorded a pair of shots. The forward has also posted one assist in 15 games with Winnipeg this season.

Power Play Connection

The Moose power play sparked for a pair of goals on Friday night against Laval. It’s the fourth time this season the Moose have scored at least two power play goals in a single contest and the team holds a 3-1-0-0 mark when doing so. C.J Suess netted the first tally, his first of the season on the man-advantage. The forward has tallied at least one power play marker in every full AHL season he’s played in. Brad Lambert found twine for the second marker and currently leads the Moose with five power play goals over the 2023-24 campaign. The Lahti, Finland product also finds himself in a five-way tie for second among all AHL rookies.

On the Verge of a Milestone

Daniel Torgersson played in his 99th career AHL contest on Friday night in Laval. The Hono, Sweden product has recorded five points (1G, 4A) in 26 games this season. Torgersson, a 2020 second round selection of Winnipeg, made his AHL debut April 24/22. The forward scored his first AHL goal two days later. Torgersson has racked up 28 career AHL points (14G, 14A) over his 99 games. He has also appeared in five Calder Cup Playoff games, all in 2022.

Allow Me to Assist

Kyle Capobianco notched an assist in Manitoba’s most recent contest. The defenceman is now up to 23 points (6G, 17A) in 29 games and sits third in team scoring in addition to leading the Moose defence corps in scoring. The Mississauga, Ont. product’s 17 assists places him first among Moose skaters this season and ranks him tied for 13th among all AHL defenceman. The defenceman, a former 2015 Arizona third round pick, has notched 108 career points (27G, 108A) in 184 contests and is 11 helpers shy of matching his career-high set in 2017-18.

Versatile

Forward Kristian Reichel lined up on the left wing of Rasmus Kupari (C) and Nikita Chibrikov (RW) in Wednesday’s game. Reichel is the third Moose skater this season to start at all three forward positions. The Litvinov, Czech Republic native has played 15 games at centre and 14 games on right wing. C.J. Suess and Dominic Toninato (on recall) are the other two Moose skaters to play at all three forward positions. Suess has 22 games on the left wing, along with three games at centre and right wing. While Toninato played four games at left wing and centre, and one game on right wing. A total of 10 Moose forwards have started at multiple positions this season.

Dean Stewart posted a power play assist on Friday night. The defenceman, who re-signed a one-year deal with Manitoba in 2023, has recorded three assists over the course of 21 contests in the 2023-24 campaign. Stewart, a former Arizona seventh round pick, has appeared in 102 AHL contests, all with Manitoba, and has tallied 30 points (2G, 28A).
