The Manitoba Moose host the Grand Rapids Griffins for the second half of their back-to-back set tonight (6 p.m.). Grand Rapids took last night's tilt by a 5-4 count in overtime, rookie Marco Kasper was awarded the game-winner. Kyle Capobianco led the Moose with a pair of assists in the loss.

Tip of the Cap

Kyle Capobianco notched a pair of assists in Manitoba’s overtime defeat yesterday. The defenceman, who inked a two-year contract with Winnipeg in 2022, has tallied multi-assist games four times this season. Capobianco recorded five assists in his past two games versus Grand Rapids, factoring in on five consecutive Moose goals against the Griffins. After tallying two points, the Mississauga, Ont. product ranks third in Moose scoring and first among antlered defenders with 25 points (6G, 19A). He also paces the club with 19 assists and ranks seventh with 55 shots on goal. Capobianco’s 25 points place him ninth overall in overall AHL defenceman scoring.

Top of the List

Nikita Chibrikov tallied a power play goal in Friday’s contest. With the tally, the 2021 Winnipeg second round pick, has now recorded 26 points (11G, 15A) in 32 games and leads the Moose in overall scoring. The forward has notched seven points (3G, 4A) over his past 10 contests and his 11 goals rank him second on the squad behind only  Brad Lambert’s 12 goals. The Moscow, Russia native also co-leads Manitoba with five markers coming by way of the man-advantage. The winger’s 26 points place him 10th in the AHL’s rookie scoring race and at the top of Moose first-year skaters.

Making History

Jeff Malott potted a goal in yesterday’s home game against Grand Rapids. The Waterdown, Ont. product is fourth in Moose scoring this season and has registered 22 points (9G, 13A) through 32 contests. Malott’s nine goals are good for third on the team and his 88 shots on goal pace the Moose over the 2023-24 campaign. The goal was the 69th of his Moose career and places Malott in sole possession of 10th in overall Manitoba franchise goals. The winger, whose next outing will be his 200th AHL contest, has tallied 127 career points (69G, 58A), all with Manitoba.

On the Board

Forward Thomas Caron scored the first of four Moose goals last night. The tally was Caron’s first AHL goal and point of the season after posting 14 points (5G, 9A) in 29 ECHL games with the Norfolk Admirals. The Candiac, Que. product struck in his fifth game of the campaign. Caron has nine points (4G, 5A) in 52 career AHL contests, all with the Manitoba Moose. The winger is the 19th skater to record a goal and 27th player to tally a point for Manitoba this season.

C.J. Suess scored Manitoba’s third goal in yesterday’s contest. The forward is currently riding a three-game point streak and has tallied three points (2G, 1A) over that span. Suess ranks eighth among Moose forwards in points and has tallied nine (5G, 4A) in 31 contests. The forward also co-leads Manitoba with three game-winning goals.
