Game Story
The Manitoba Moose (11-10-1-2) kicked off a five game road trip against the Charlotte Checkers (10-13-2-0) on Tuesday.  After killing an early penalty, the Moose found the back of the net first.  Quinton Howden raced into the Charlotte zone and drew a pair of defenders, only to drop the puck for Chase De Leo in the slot who made a move to his forehand to bury his fifth of the year.  Ondrej Pavelec made sure that held up for the rest of the period, facing down 14 Checkers shots and stopping all of them.  With 1:06 left in the first, Connor Brickley was assessed a five minute major for his hit on Jan Kostalek which the Moose carried into the second with a 1-0 lead.

The Moose couldn’t turn the extended powerplay opportunity into any insurance goals and continued to sit ahead by the lone marker.  The Checkers finally found the back of the net in the final three minutes of the period.  In the late stages of a Charlotte two-man advantage, Lucas Wallmark got free to the side of the net and popped in the tying goal.  Moments after the second powerplay expired, Haydn Fleury jumped on a rebound to give the Checkers their first lead of the night.  The pair of goals came in 44 seconds to send Charlotte to the third with a 2-1 advantage.

Penalties continued to plague the Moose in the third as a clearing attempt on the penalty kill slipped over the glass to put Manitoba down five-on-three for the second time.  Charlotte capitalized on the opportunity. After a pair of Pavelec saves, Haydn Fleury stepped into a blast that squeaked past the goaltender to give the Checkers a two goal edge five minutes into the third.  Scott Glennie pulled the Moose back within one at the 8:15 mark.  Off the top of a powerplay, Glennie charged to the net and found some space around Daniel Altshuller to pull Manitoba within one.  That was as close as the Moose would come as Patrick Brown iced the game with an empty netter and Charlotte took the 4-2 win.
