Game Story
The Manitoba Moose (15-18-3-2) opened up a six-game road swing against the Texas Stars (19-15-1-2). All the scoring in the first period came on one Texas powerplay. With Peter Stoykewych in the box, Quinton Howden stole the puck, raced in alone and potted his ninth goal of the season to open the scoring. With just two seconds left on the powerplay, Gemel Smith dove to knock in Remi Elie’s rebound to tie the game 1-1. Eric Comrie and Landon Bow each made eight stops in the opening period.
Special teams checked in again as the Moose pulled back in front 12 minutes into the second. With Manitoba on the powerplay, Brenden Kichton set the table for Chase De Leo whose shot was redirected into the goal by Brendan Lemieux for the go-ahead marker. Texas knotted things up with 4:18 to go in the frame. Matej Stransky sent the puck from below the goal line out to Julius Honka at the point and the defenceman wired a slap shot past Comrie to leave the score 2-2 after the middle period.
Texas grabbed its first lead of the game 2:41 into the third. On an odd-man rush, Caleb Herbert moved the puck to Jason Dickinson who snapped home the 3-2 marker. The Stars added to their lead when Denis Gurianov used his speed to skate onto a loose puck and break away. The 2015 first rounder made a move while cutting across the crease to slide the puck five-hole for the 4-2 lead. The Moose weren’t about to go quietly as, with Comrie having just slipped to the bench, Kyle Connor fired a shot to the back of the net to bring Manitoba within one. Despite the late push, the Moose couldn’t tie the game as the Stars came away the 4-3 winners.
